Investment ideas from the Investor Prague Show conference: Alternative investments and Trading Expo

Sharing is Caring:

The Investor Prague Show conference was not very well promoted in the media, and I was all the more surprised that the content was very useful. In addition, the conference was free with just pre-registration. It was one of those I went to risking it at all. And I was really pleasantly surprised.

I will summarize some interesting ideas that interested me at this investor conference. It is a pity that there is so little discussion in the Czech Republic about investing in blockchain technology (which is not necessarily just buying bitcoin ).

The crisis is coming, but we do not see any yet

I have heard several times that we are still up and there is no prospect of a crisis on the horizon. Of course, we hear from all sides that the crisis must come, it is an economic cycle. In addition, we have been in a bullish trend for 9 years. I recommend looking at the MSCI World Index .

By default, there is a change after 7 years. So we have been through normal for 2 years and the prospects are still positive.

Prices are up, but it still doesn’t look like a correction. Yet.

The specific time period that I captured was 6 months in advance, in which we can be relatively sure that the crisis will not come. If I summarize other conferences and events that I have attended, we move with the prospects for 2020-2022, when there are economic questions.

This gives me good signals that even though most assets are expensive (at their peaks), it is still good to invest. Only one has to be more careful with the choice.

ETF is the future of investment

If there is a trend in the US in mainstream investment in Europe, it is the ETF. Who doesn’t know here is an explanation of what the ETF is .

What is interesting, however, is that with the growing market capital in ETF investments, the volume of the largest players is also growing. This can have unfortunate consequences. So far, they are only getting bigger (inflated). Larger companies are getting bigger and of course the index is growing. But in proportion.

  • The Dow Jones index contains 30 companies. Only 5 companies make 41% of the index!
  • With the SP500 index, only 15 companies make up 30% of the volume!

Investing in oil

I avoid oil and the oil industry in general in terms of investment, because I do not feel that I understand it sufficiently. If anyone would like to invest in oil, the mining.com portal was recommended .

Real estate investment

We talked about investment opportunities abroad. The big tip for me was that I needed to watch the secondary market, that is, whether someone would buy the property from me. E.g. the situation in spain is currently such that developers are building and completing a number of projects. But the demand from citizens and investors is not so great as to include the “normal” supply of flats and houses as part of the move, ie “sale / purchase”. When the crisis comes, Spain will have huge problems.

Drinking water as an investment

I have heard about drinking water at some investment conferences in recent years, and from time to time I come across an article on the Internet that concerns the investment potential in drinking water, infrastructure, technology, etc. I’ve had several conversations on this topic, but so far too many people don’t seem to know enough to be sure of an investment. Me neither. For the time being, I rather follow this trend of drinking water and gather information.

But I was very glad that this topic was on the agenda of the investment conference.

And what intrigued me?

Half of China’s population lives in cities. 20 million people move to cities in China each year. 25% of the world’s water is lost when transferred through infrastructure.

There was more data shown, but even these are enough for your own picture of where this global trend is going.

The states are well aware of the situation and, for the sake of interest, the US is investing USD 7.5 billion between 2015 and 2030 in “drinking water”.

Singapore currently recycles 25% of all the water it has. And his visions are 55%. Technology helps us tremendously in this.

I remember staying in Morocco when we saw desalination in real life. It is very expensive at the moment, but states are still investing in it because they know they cannot wait any longer and must take steps to make drinking water available to its people.

Through the quick googleing “aqua index etf”, I displayed an index chart and words are not even needed for that. Perhaps I will just point out that you notice how quickly the index managed to recover from the crisis in 2007/2008.

Those who are more interested in investing in water can look at specific companies:

  • Agilent
  • Perkin Elmer
  • Georg Fisher
  • Rule
  • Sika
  • Danaher
  • Itron

But investing in water is not about choosing one company and investing there. Rather, it is again about a diversification strategy, where we choose several companies in the field of infrastructure, another in distribution, another in technology, etc. And at the same time we can diversify not only sectorally but also geographically. So don’t put all your eggs on the US market.

Apple Vs. Amazon stock

The block was also interesting, when we were shown a comparison of financial health and a comparison of a possible investment in Apple or Amazon.
